Diving Meets
We generally have a diving meet prior to each swim meet. All diving meets are shown on schedule under the Meet Schedule tab.
To participate in a regular season meet, a diver must be able to complete 6-dives including one required dive (called the “voluntary” dive for some reason) and five (5) others (called “optional” dives) from 4 of the 5 diving groups (forward, back, inward, twisting, reverse).
The NFHS Rules (Rule 9, Section 4, Article 6) specify that the required dive alternates weekly for league competitions, however, the NFHS rules leave it to the league to define the meaning of “week”.
On April 26, 2024, the VISAA Swim & Dive committee approved the following weekly dive rotation schedule to which we will adhere for meets hosted by Seton Diving:
| Week Beginning | Required Dive Group |
|---|---|
| Prior to Thanksgiving | By Mutual Consent |
| Saturday after Thanksgiving | Front Group |
| 1st Saturday in December | Back Group |
| 2nd Saturday in December | Inward Group |
| 3rd Saturday in December | Twisting Group |
| Christmas Break | By Mutual Consent |
| 1st Saturday in January | Reverse Group |
| 2nd Saturday in January | Front Group |
| 3th Saturday in January | Back Group |
| 4th Saturday in January | Inward Group |
| Championship Season | All Meets with 11-Dives (Rule 9, Section 4, Article 1) |
For post-season championship meets, including our VCAC Conference Championship, the VISAA Division II Invitational Championship, and the VISAA State Championship, divers are required to complete 11 dives including 2 from each group.
According to NFHS Rules (Note 2, Rule 9, Section 4, Article 6), the competing teams, by prior mutual consent, may choose to compete with 11-dives during non-championship meets. For meets during the season where time allows, we will attempt to provide an opportunity for our divers to experience an 11-dive competition.
