The 2023 VISAA State Swimming and Diving Championships will be held at Liberty University in Lynchburg, VA on the Friday and Saturday, February 17-18, 2023.

To participate in the meet on behalf of Seton, you must achieve a qualifying time in a high school meet during the current season.  Here is the Meet Announcement, the Psych Sheet, the qualifying times as approved by the VISAA Swimming Executive Committee, and other timeline information for the 2023 State Championships:

Our warm-up session on Thursday night is at Liberty University Natatorium from 4:00 to 4:30.  Diving Warm-up Thursday night is from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. so I will leave it to Coach Keapproth to set that schedule.

Swimmers and Divers should plan on leaving after 4th period and going straight to the pool.  We will take a team picture with anyone who is in the proper uniform at 3:45 p.m.  See below for “Everything You Need to Know About States“.

We’ve rented a house on AirBnB so we have a central gathering place for the team between sessions.  Most of the team will not actually sleep at the house.  Here’s the AirBnB listing for the place:

Here are the Individual qualifiers.   You may only swim in the bonus 50 Free if you have qualified in some other way and aren’t already swimming four (4) events.

We have qualified both an “A” and a “B” Relay for all six (6) relay events for boys and girls.  We are taking the fastest eight (8)8 swimmers for each relay, even if that means that a swimmer is swimming in three (3) relays.  The exceptions are Ariana Aldeguer, Clara Condon, Connor Koehr and JJ Brox who will participate in two (2) events individually.   Here are the best splits swum during this season:

If you are on a “B” Relay, you still have one more opportunity to swim on the “A” Relay.  If the “A” Relay qualifies for the Finals and you swim a split in Prelims that puts you into the top 4, you will swim for Seton in the Finals.

Here are a few key highlights that need more immediate attention and a response.

• Key Info and Action Items:
  • Each participant is responsible for arranging his/her own rides, accommodations, and chaperone (if a parent is not attending) for the weekend. Please use this link to keep us informed of your swimmer/diver’s plans.
  • Spectators must purchase tickets for each day of the competition. Tickets are on sale now via this website: VISAA State Meet Spectator Tickets $10 per day, Family Rate (2 adults + children): $30 per day (Team members in uniform are free)
  • We need volunteers: Volunteers sign up here
    • 1 Girl Dive Team volunteer
    • 1 Boy Dive Team Volunteer
    • 2 timers for Friday Prelims
    • 2 timers for Saturday Prelims
    • Help coordinating seniors for the senior parade on Saturday before finals
    • Help with set up and clean up for team meals
  • Cost:
    • $75 for team meals (parents welcome) use this link to RSVP by Feb. 13. State Team Meals (please consider donating a coach’s meals for the weekend.) More info below. Note: Friday dinner and Sunday not included.
    • $170 per person staying in the team house (see below – this only partially covers the house, which we have reserved for team fellowship between sessions and meals.)
    • Donations towards the team house expense that we will share for team gatherings would be welcome.  Suggested amount is $25.
      • Coach Koehr often personally covers the overage to provide a comfortable place for our swimmers to meet together in between sessions, and this amount will lessen his personal contribution.

IHOP Pre Order Instructions – Thursday, February 16th at 7:15 a.m.

We’ve spoken with the managers at IHOP, and they are happy to host our team. In order to ensure everyone gets to school by the first bell at 8:15 am, we’re asking you to pre-order your food and drinks. When you arrive, the food should be ready and we can enjoy a meal together to kick off the State Meet weekend. We want to represent ourselves and the school well, so please tip generously, keep your areas tidy, and be mindful of other guests in the restaurant.

Please place your order by Tuesday, February 14.

Arrive by 7:00 AM on Thursday, February 16.

Everyone should leave IHOP and be on time for school.

Coach will pass out the state team caps and  rugby shirts to anyone who doesn’t have one yet. If you were on the team last year, you received a rugby shirt already.
