The 2024 VISAA State Swimming and Diving Championships will be held at the Christiansburg Aquatic Center in Christiansburg, VA near Virginia Tech on the Friday and Saturday, February 16-17, 2024.
The weekend will start with a Thursday morning team breakfast at IHOP, a Thursday evening warm-up in the competition pool, and a Thursday night team dinner at our Team House. The meet itself is across two days with the events from the 200 Medley Relay through 100 Fly on Friday and the events from 100 Free through the 400 Free Relay on Saturday. Preliminaries are in the mornings and Finals are at night with the Diving competition typically in the afternoon between the swimming sessions. The girls will dive on Friday, but the Prelims and Semi-Finals for boys diving (the first eight (8) dives) will be done during the swimming preliminaries on Saturday morning – not a good arrangement, but it is what it is. We will end the weekend with a celebration of at least one State Championships (hopefully) at the Team House with most people returning home on Sunday morning after Mass.

To participate in the meet on behalf of Seton, you must achieve a qualifying time or diving score in a high school meet during the current season. I expect a complete Meet Announcement to be posted by the end of the year. Here are the qualification standards:
VISAA State Champ Qualification Standards – ’23-’24
We typically qualify both an “A” and a “B” Relay for all six (6) of the boys and girls Relay events, and then we typically have a number of swimmers and divers qualify individually. We go to this meet to win the VISAA Division II State Championship, so we take the most competitive team possible to this meet which means that our fastest swimmers often swim all three (3) relays for which they are eligible. The implication of taking only the fastest relays possible is that, unless you’ve qualified individually, qualifying for just a relay does not guarantee that you will be on the State Team.
