VISAA State Championship 2024 - Girls Win State Division-II Runner Up!

On Friday and Saturday, February 16-17, 2024, we competed in the VISAA State Swimming and Diving Championship at the Christiansburg Aquatic Center in Christiansburg, VA. See Mr. Fifield’s Photo Stream from States here, and see his State Champs Highlight video here.

The Seton Girls are the VISAA Division II State Championship Runner-Up!

Connor Koehr is the VISAA Boys State 1-meter Diving Champion and the Diver of the Meet!

After six (6) previous Division II State Championship for the girls and four (4) previous championships for the Boys, it was Seton’s 6^th time as VISAA Division II State Championship Runner-Up

Our Runner-up finish came largely on the strength of our relays, but we also scored significantly in several individual events. Congratulations to Seton’s Individual State Finalists:

Connor Koehr (SO) – 1^st in Diving
Ariana Aldeguer (8) – 5^th in 500 Free and 7^th in 200 IM
Mick Fioramonti (JR) – 6^th in Diving
Jacob Oswald (JR) – 10^th in Diving
Gus Kohlhaas (JR) – 11^th in Diving
Rose Waldron (JR) – 13^th in Diving
Max Gonzalez (JR) – would have been 13^th if Seton was allowed to score more than four (4) divers.
Michael Brox (JR) – 15^th in 50 Free
Clara Condon (SO) – 16^th in 100 Fly

The State Champions were:

Girls Overall – Collegiate School
Girls Division II – Cape Henry Collegiate (12^th overall)
Boys Overall – St. Christopher’s School
Boys Division II – The Covenant School (9^th overall)

The Girls Division II State Championship came down to the final relay where Cape Henry Collegiate’s 6^th place finish over our 11^th place finish gave them 26-points versus our 12-points, more than enough for their final 9-point margin of victory.

The Boys Division II State Championship also came down to the Final Relay where Seton’s 10^th place finish was not enough to overcome Covenant’s 7^th and Immanuel Christian’s 6^th.

Our Swimmers of the Meet were:

Allie Witdoeckt (SR), Trinity Christian School
- Two (2) Individual gold medals in 100 Fly and 100 Free
- Two (2) Bronze medals in 200 Medley Relay and 200 Free Relay
- 4X All-State
Simon Bermudez Santa Maria (SR), Flint Hill School
- Two (2) Individual gold medals in 200 IM and 100 Back
- Two (2) new Meet Records (these times are not typos):
  - Boys 200 IM, 1:47.13
  - Boys 100 Back, 47.68
